The Institute offers a four-year full-time B.Tech. program in Electronics and Communication Engineering, awarded by Himachal Pradesh Technical University (HPTU). This field involves the transmission of information across channels such as a coaxial cable, optical fiber or free space. ECE Engineer can work on designing equipment such as routers, switches, multiplexers and electronic switching systems, copper telephone facilities and fiber optics. It develops everyday devices such as transistors, integrated circuits and printed circuit boards (PCBs) which can be used in computers, MP3 players, cell phones, television to name a few. The discipline deals with electronic devices and software interfaces. The applications are far reaching, right from the indoors of the house to industries. The tasks of the Electronics and Communication engineers are to direct, control and test produce processes a well as to ensure safety, installation, and functioning of the various mechanisms. The discipline integrates knowledge based on digital electronics and logic design, fundamentals of communication engineering, electronic circuits, signals and systems, power electronics, applied electromagnetic theory, integrated circuits, VLSI, control systems and computer architecture.

- Would have solid foundation and relevant skills in electronics and communication engineering, so as to apply acquired knowledge in mathematics and science to generate solutions to engineering problems.

After completing a B.Tech. students can opt for M.Tech./MS in various subjects such as Fiber Optics and Light waves, Microelectronics & VLSI Design, RF and Microwaves, Telecommunication Systems, Visual Information and Embedded Systems.

Duration, Eligibility :
The admission prerequisite is 10+2 with PCM (Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics) with 45% marks (40% for reserved category). The candidate should have appeared in JEE and gone through the counseling process at HPTU. The number of seats available for this program is 60, and admission is subject to timely payment of required academic documents and fees.

The major laboratories are in the fields of Analog Electronics, Audio Visual System, Digital Electronics, Microprocessor & Communication, Microwaves, Opto Electronics, Neural Networks, Virtual Instrumentation, Computer Networks, VLSI design, DSP and Mechatronics. Digital Signal Processing and Data Communication Lab is used for practical /project work in the area of DSP, data communication, and computer architecture.
It has 15 Pentium IV based computers, Image processing kit, DSP kits along with interface cards and data communication kits. It is also equipped with MATLAB, System View and Bloom with Digital Signal Processing Software. Communication Lab is equipped with demonstrator kits for Wireless Sensor Network, Data Communication, RF ID, Wireless Communication and Qualnet software for simulation purpose.
The Microprocessor laboratory is equipped with 10 P-IV Computers, microprocessor kits, microcontroller kits of the types 8085, 8086, 8051 and PIC and Electronics workbench (multisim).
An Electronics Engineer can get a job in Central Government, State Governments and their sponsored corporations in public enterprises and the private organizations. As an Electronic Engineer, entry for junior posts in the Government departments is by direct recruitment through advertisements in newspapers. Selection to Gazetted posts is through the competitive examinations conducted by Union and State Public Service Commission. In the Defence Services, young engineers start as Second Lieutenants. For selection into the Defence Services – Indian Army, Indian Air Force, Indian Navy, applications are invited through National dailies and Employment News. Electronic Engineers can start their own business by manufacture electronic parts, goods and components.
